Miscibility and Performance of Polymers and Blends

ABSTRACT
Polymer blends and nano-composites have been widely used in engineering and specialty plastics since they can be cost- and time- effective to be produced and can offer great advantages of tailoring specific physical performance including mechanical and optical properties. The understanding and factors on the nano-scale for determining the miscibility of polymer blends will be described.
It is great interest of studying the detailed nano-structural effects, e.g. of ring substitution with different chemical structure on the benzene of bisphenol-A polycarbonate (PC), on the miscibility behavior with polystyrene and polyesters by using DSC. In particular, it will cover our understandings on the relationship between the miscibility and the nano-scale molecular structures in terms of molecular interactions between the polymers determined by FT-IR.
Finally, some interesting nano-structural surfaces discovered and identified from the nature and their potential applications for special and valuable performance will be presented.
